Free Metro ride with CommonWealth Games ticket

New Delhi, July 21: Those planning to watch Commonwealth Games events can hop on a Metro train for a free ride, with Games tickets having special foils for free Metro travel. The Metro travel passes will be attached as foils to the Games tickets, with no extra charge. With 10 of 11 Games venues — Games Village, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi University, Thyagaraj Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, National Stadium, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex and R K Tennis Complex — falling on the Metro route, the common ticketing system is expected to ease travel to Games events. “The Games tickets will have two detachable foils for Metro rides to and from the Games venues. These foils will have the same unique serial numbers printed on the Games ticket and will be valid for that venue and date only,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

DMRC guards and volunteers will verify the foils at the Metro station entry and exit gates specially designated for commuters headed for the Games. The DMRC will also release a special Games booklet to provide necessary information to commuters during the Games. “The booklet will carry information on the various Metro corridors and stations, as well as details on the various tourist and shopping attractions in the city and their Metro connectivity. Information on the city’s hotels, railway stations and other emergency numbers will also be provided,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
