AR Rahman To Perform At Commonwealth Games Opening Night

New Delhi, India – The “Mozart of Madras,” A. R. Rahman, has been roped in to perform at the grand opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2010, scheduled to take place in New Delhi Oct. 3-14. Rahman also composed the theme song for the Games. Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee, informed on Thursday that Rahman would be performing live at the opening ceremony.

The organizing committee will release the theme song before the Games in hopes that those present at the opening ceremony will sing along. Rahman, who received two Oscars last year for his popular music in the sleeper hit Slumdog Millionaire, has been named as the most downloaded Indian artist in the world.
